An individual who laced candy with sleeping medication and gave them to minors at a youth camp in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two boys aged between nine and ten.
The accused was arrested after eight children and one adult fell ill at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he denied one particular crime he was accused of, which was involving a young boy.
Ruben was remanded in custody prior to a further hearing on late November.
'Sweet game'
The legal representative, prosecuting, outlined Ruben's offending to the court.
She stated his those affected were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer program which he ran.
The man engaged in a "candy game" with the minors, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to eat sweets "rapidly".
She told the court the defendant had conducted this practice with the children "over an extended period", and children had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She explained Ruben had been able to explain this over a long period as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had concerns in recently.
The prosecutor continued: "This year his stepson had suspicions about the situation, for good reason.
"They resolved" to have a look in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC said objects including infant oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were found, and his stepson notified the law enforcement about his worries.
She explained Ruben continued to engage in the "treat game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the following morning.
"The police had not responded by that time," she stated further.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
The prosecutor stated the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the stepson notified the authorities once more.
She said the defendant then played the "candy game" in a room of five youngsters.
